No More Long Emails #loom

Hey, it's Paul with a one minute video to the LinkedIn community. I was reflecting today. Uh, sometimes we find the silver linings of our time in global pandemic.

And, uh, part of that is the ways in which we become more efficient. And I know that in my work as a professor in my working community development and another project, one of the happy results of our time in COVID, uh, was that I gave up the long email.

And if there's anything that, uh, drives me crazy, it is multi-paragraph emails that have the tendency to be misinterpreted or to end up in an unending chain or unnecessary meetings.

And, and I've really been impressed by, uh, this wonderful app, uh, called loom, uh, giving you the ability to, uh, have multiple options for, uh, face over screen or anything in between.

And, um, and at the end of the day, a simple, immediate pastable link that can be shared without the need to upload or, uh, use up space on the local desktop.

And so I'd encourage you to check out loom. I know there are incentives for those of you in academia and just thought I'd pass along.

Uh, one of the efficiency, uh, tools that's been really useful to me as of late peace.

How Loom Makes International "Meetings" Easier

I have a secret, I'm an extrovert, but I hate meetings. I work in an international company. So most of the people I work with are six or more hours ahead of me, which means that I wake up super early.

What's great. Is that with loom, you can have those meetings asynchronously without having to worry about scheduling time on someone's call super early in the morning or late in the evening, their time, uh, it makes working at an international company way more efficient.

My favorite way to use loom is for any sort of product walkthroughs or any sort of walkthrough of how to do something functionally, uh, how to do a certain process.

Obviously we have documentation for that as well, but being able to actually walk through it in a loom is way more efficient.

Loom Use Case: Law firm new hire training

Hi, I'm April Harris Jackson with graceful aging legal services. We are a law firm in Tennessee focusing on probate estate planning and elder law.

And we use loom for training, both our employees and getting feedback as well as providing information to our clients and potential clients.

So right now I'm going to show you how we use loom to do training with new staff members. Or we could also use this for existing staff members.

We tend to be we implement new software as we find that it would be useful for our clients. So today I'm going to be showing a new staff member, Caitlin how we use loom to or how we use decision vault, which is one of our softwares to integrate between two other softwares that we use, which is us and wealth council.

So, so Caitlin, I just wanted to show you, so I've got, this is our test matter.  I've just got a will-based plan for a single individual here.

This is Lorelei Gilmore and she wants to make an estate plan for her with the primary heir being her daughter Rory.

So what we are going to do is we are going to sync her contacts to wealth, cancel and lockers. So first if you'll sync everything to lock us.

Now, if you think that she has an existing matter, if you think that she has had contact with us in the past and maybe, you know, we already have call notes for her.

If not, you're going to create an existing, you're going to create a new matter. And what you'll do is I like to go ahead and we want to select everyone so that everyone, all of our contacts get put into Las Vegas.

And you're just going to select all, and then you're going to run the sync and it'll show you as people get added.

So you will want to wait until everyone is in the system. So once the client or potential client has added all of their contacts and then you'll go back and you'll basically do it again for wealth council.

So again, select all and then just run the sync and it's running and you'll see when it gets when it's completed.

And that's it. So now when you are Able now when you go into either of those other software's, all of these contacts and their information, their names addresses, birthdays, phone numbers, email addresses will already be in the system.

So you're not having to do dual data injury. So awesome. Katelyn, thanks so much. We're glad to have you on board.

Screen and Engagement Tips with Loom

Hey, Lum community. My name is Miegelacetro, and I work for a Medicare agency that supports agents with software and services on the back end.

A lot of what I do, aside from helping agents directly, is I walk, come through our technology, and I show them how to use that technology to their benefit.

Aside from walking them through the technology, I find that it's very beneficial to do certain things to grab their attention.

Now I'm doing it with you right now and having the screen blown up the way that it is, so that it's just you and I talking and having a conversation.

Once I actually start walking through the tech, I'll use the small bubble so that I can be brought this way.

And I'm going to have this video running in the background so you can see exactly what I'm referencing. In the beginning, I like to blow up the screen.

I like to give context on what it is that I'm sharing. Specifically why it's important to the agent and how we're going to make a difference for them and their clients.

Once I get into the small bubble like I am in right now, then I can have a different conversation. And then I'm focusing on the tech and the software walkthrough right as I get to the end of, uh, the particular piece, whatever it is I'm sharing on the topic, I like to then get my bubble to be a little bit bigger and I bring myself to the center.

And at this point, I'm really focusing on the lens. As much as it doesn't feel very human, I'm focusing on the lens and I'm making it feel like now we're having a conversation.

So I don't go back to blowing it up. I want to say, hey, look, this is the context. Then I get small, I talk about the tech or the topic, and then I get right in the middle and I say, this is why this is important.

This is how we're going to help you and support you. And then if you have any questions, you can follow up and reach out to me.

You really want to engage your audience in every way possible. Not just by having them follow your mouse, but really following the story.

The other piece that you can use is, in the event that I was moved over to this side, I can do things like this and say, hey, this part of the tech right here, or, um, in whichever way you're moving yourself around, you can really use that to your advantage.

Um, doing it this way, pointing down those types of things allow the audience to be more engaged with you and feel like you're actually embedded within the video in some way, but also in having an almost real time discussion as well.
